Abstract

Abstract: This community service aims to provide guidance and cultural literacy campaigns to
residents assisted by the Jantho Penitentiary (Lapas), Aceh Besar District, Aceh Province. The
amount of free time that the inmates have should be able to be used with productive activities, one
of which is literacy activities. For this reason, this literacy campaign is very important to do as an
effort to foster reading interest in people who are undergoing a period of coaching. The literacy
campaign in prisons is carried out in several stages; first, to disseminate information to prison
residents about the importance of reading; second, inviting prison residents to read either
individually or together. The results of the implementation of the literacy culture campaign for the
inmates of Jantho Prison show that they like to read books, but they need to be motivated to read.
Gradually, prison residents began to enjoy reading because they realized that this activity could
increase their knowledge and self-development.
