Peningkatan Pengetahuan Masyarakat Terhadap Pencegahan Difteri di Desa Balohan Kecamatan Sukajaya Kota Sabang

Abstract


Diphtheria is a type of infectious disease caused by a bacterial infection that begins with a sore throat, fever, weakness and swelling of the mucous membranes of the lymph nodes. The infecting bacteria is called Corynebacterium diphtheria. The success of human resources in the health sector will have an impact on reducing diphtheria morbidity and mortality, reducing mortality and improving public health. Improving public health will result in a high productive age. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia reported that the incidence of diphtheria in 2015 amounted to 502 cases, from January to November, more than 509 cases were recorded with 6% deaths. In 2017 to November, there were 622 cases of diphtheria, 32 of whom died. While from October to November 2017 there were 11 provinces where outbreaks occurred, including West Sumatra, Central Java, Aceh, South Sumatra, East Kalimantan, Riau, Banteen DKI Jakarta, West Java and East Java. The incidence of diteri in that period reached 643 cases, 32 of them died. Basic knowledge that people need to know about diphtheria and how to prevent diphtheria, because diphtheria bacteria will produce toxins that will kill healthy cells in the throat, so that eventually they become dead cells. These dead cells willform a gray membrane (thin layer) in the throat. In addition, the toxins produced also have the potential to spread in the bloodstream and damage the heart, kidneys and nervous system.
