Abstract

Water is the most important component for humans because it is used in everyday life. However, a good microbiological requirement for drinking water is that no coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli are found in 100 ml of water. This study aims to determine the effect of addition of chlorine [Ca(CIO)2] on the presence of E. coli bacteria in dug well water in Gampong Jawa Banda Aceh. The research was carried out at the Banda Aceh Polytechnic's Environmental Health Laboratory from September 1 to October 5, 2019. The method used was quasi-experimental. Water samples were taken from fifteen wells in the Banda Aceh Gampong area of Banda Aceh using a random sampling method and a laboratory preliminary test was conducted to determine the presence of coliform and E. coli bacteria. The water from the fifteen wells is then divided into three groups and added with chlorine with each dose of 1.5 gr/L (A1), 2.0 gr/L (B2), and 2.5 gr/L (C3) . The results showed that of the three wells that had been added with chlorine with a dose concentration of 1.5 g/L, 2.0 g/L, and 2.5 g/L contained 0 bacteria. It can be assumed that the three wells with chlorinated water meet the microbiological requirements of water according to Permenkes No.416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990..
