Abstract

The Effect of Behavioral Factors on the Occurrence of Type 2 Diabetes in the Internal Medicine Clinic of Meuraxa Hospital Banda Aceh. Health behavior is an activity of humans that can be observed directly or indirectly on a stimulus or object related to illness or disease. The domain of health behavior is divided into 3, namely knowledge, attitudes, and actions. Each domain has an important role in regulating one's behavior. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of behavioral factors on the occurrence of type 2 diabetes in patients seeking treatment at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at the Meuraxa Hospital Banda Aceh. The design of this research is descriptive observational with cross sectional method. The data collection tool uses a questionnaire. The total sample is 42 respondents who were taken by accidental sampling technique. Data collection was carried out on May 24 to June 8, 2021. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between attitudes (p = 0.020), actions (p = 0.009) on the incidence of type 2 DM and there was no relationship between knowledge and the incidence of type 2 DM (p = 0.695) at Meuraxa Hospital Banda Aceh. It is important for patients and families to monitor lifestyle, especially daily food consumption in preventing blood sugar instability in people with diabetes. Health workers should provide education and simulations to patients and families regarding diet patterns that can be applied daily, so that existing knowledge can be interpreted in the form of real attitudes and actions.
