Abstract


Abstract: Foot gymnastics is one form of physical exercise that has the benefit of increasing blood flow, so there
will be more open capillary nets so that more insulin receptors are available and receptors become more active
which will affect the decrease in blood glucose in diabetic patients. Purpose of the study to determine the effect
of foot exercises on blood sugar levels when in patients with type II diabetes mellitus in Jelanga Mata Ie Village,
Bandar Dua Pidie Jaya District. This research was conducted on February 21 to March 10 in 2019. The design
of quasi-experimental research (quasi-experimental) with the study design was a pretest-posttest control group
design. The number of samples is 28 respondents. The results showed that the average measurement of blood
sugar levels before being given foot exercises was 114,75. While the average value of measuring blood sugar
levels after being given foot exercises is 107,89. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test results showed a P value of
0.001 which means that there was an influence of foot gymnastics on blood sugar levels when in patients with
type II diabetes mellitus in Jelanga Mata Ie Village, Bandar Dua Pidie Jaya District in 2019. It is recommended
for the Geuchik Gampong to work together with puskesmas officers to obtain doing foot exercises in people with
DM once a week.
