Abstract

Abstract: Hypertension has currently been one of common health problems. It is one of leading causes of death in
old and also young people nowadays. There are at least one billion people with hypertension worldwide, or one out
of four adults is suffering from hypertension at the moment. However, the causes of essential or primary
hypertension have not been fully discovered. Various factors are assumed to be the causes of primary hypertension,
such as increasing age, psychological stress, and heredity while secondary hypertension has been known to be
caused by kidney blood vessel abnormalities, thyroid gland disorders (hyperthyroidism), adrenal gland disease
(hyperaldosteronism), and others. Foot soak therapy using warm water is very easy to do if it is compared to other
non-pharmacological therapies and can be given to various age groups. The objective of this research was to
identify the decrease in blood pressure of the elderly persons with hypertension in the Regional Technical
Implementation Unit (UPTD) of Geunaseh Sayang Nursing Home of Aceh after foot soak therapy with warm water.
In this study, a purposive sampling technique was used to choose a number of 15 respondents. A group pretest and
posttest design was used. The results of this study show that in the pretest and posttest intervention groups, the p-
value was 0.000. According to this result, there was a change in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the elderly
persons with hypertension.
