Abstract

Cattle farm is a potential source to produce beef, which has high nutritional value and benefit for the community. This study aimed to determine a balance between forage and concentrate on the appearance of Bali cattle and crossed Brahman and simental cattle. The materials used were 20 Bali calves and crossed Brahman and simental cattles. The feed ingredients given in this study were forage and concentrate with a ratio of 80: 20. The concentrate ingredients were consisted of rice bran, sago and yam skin. The observed variables were amount of feed consumption and body weight gain. The research data were analyzed by the T-test. The result shows that there is a significant difference (P <0.05) between the average amount of consumption forage and concentrate in the crossed Brahman and simental cattles 22.50 and 5.49 kg / head / day, it is higher than in Bali cattle 20, 85 and 4.77 kg / head / day. The daily body weight gain of the crossed Brahman and simental cattle is significantly (P <0.05) higher than the Bali cattle. The provision of 80% forage and 20% concentrate has a good tolerance to support rumen activity in degrading the ration. It can be concluded that giving a balance ingredients between forage and concentrate provides a significant difference to amount of feed consumption, daily body weight gain and feed conversion.
