Pengaruh Durasi Penggunaan Komputer terhadap Kejadian Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) Pada pegawai di Kantor Walikota Banda Aceh

Abstract


The use of computers can cause serious and varied problems. Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is the most common issue in workers due to long-term use of computer screens. Symptoms ranging from dry eyes, burning sensations, eye irritation, blurred vision, and eyestrain arise after working with the monitor for three hours or more in a day. This research was conducted to find out the influence of the duration of computer usage with CVS on employees who use computers at the Mayor’s office of Banda Aceh. This was a quantitative research with cross sectional method. The population in this study is employees who work at the Mayor’s office of Banda Aceh. The respondents were 60 employees chosen through total sampling technique. The data collection tool used self-developed questionnaires. The results showed that from the total of 18 respondents whose duration of computer usage was in the light category, totaled 13 respondents (72.2%) did not experience computer vision syndrome, and from 14 respondents whose duration of computer usage was in heavy category, totaled 9 respondents (64,3%) have computer vision syndrome. The results of statistical analysis indicated that there was influence of duration of computer usage toward the occurrence of computer vision syndrome on employees who work at the Mayor’s office of Banda Aceh (ρ-value = 0,042) The conclusion of the study indicates that there is influence of duration of computer usage toward the occurrence of computer vision syndrome on employees who work at the Mayor’s office of Banda Aceh. It is expected that the municipality will seek awareness-raising on all staff in their respective sections to maintain and care more about their own health while working
