Abstract

: Language as a national identity plays a powerful role in the exchange of information among the community. However, in its use, many language distortions impact forming new phenomena in society. This study is conducted to report the results of observations by adopting qualitative research methods. The object of the research itself is the artefacts of Indonesian distortions portrayed in advertisements, banners, and billboards around the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Four parts of language distortion were focused, these are morphology, code-mixing, spelling, and semantics. The results of the research show that most distortions occur in code-mixing. The absorption of foreign languages, English, particularly dominates some of the language distortions.
