Abstract

A shallow well is one of the sources of clean water that is still widely used by the community, especially in the countryside. A shallow well cannot be directly used for daily needs if the mineral content of heavy metals contained in shallow wells exceeds the specified quality standards. Iron is a heavy metal that is often found in shallow wells. A shallow well that contains heavy iron metal if used directly will be harmful to health and household appliances. Goat bones are waste whose utilization has not been maximized. The content of carbon compounds contained in goat bones can be used as raw materials for the manufacture of activated charcoal. The study aimed to study the reduction in iron heavy metal levels in shallow wells using activated charcoal goat bones measuring 100 mesh. The research method was carried out in batch using variations in the weight of active charcoal goat bones 5 g, 10 g, 15 g with a contact time of 15 and 30 minutes. The results showed that the efficiency of absorption of iron heavy metals in shallow well using goat bone activated charcoal ranged from 88.45% - 92.40%.
