Optimasi Waktu Aktivasi Arang Aktif Berbahan Baku Limbah Tulang Kambing

Abstract


Bone is one of the wastes produced from agricultural processing which until now has not been maximally processed. Bones contain organic compounds that can be processed into raw materials for activated charcoal. The aimed of this research to study the effect of activation time on characteristics of active charcoal made from raw goat bone waste. The process of making activated charcoal begins with the process of carbonization at 700ºC for 20 minutes and then charcoal is activated at a temperature of 600ºC for 1, 2, and 3 hours with a charcoal size of 50 mesh. The results showed the best characteristics of activated charcoal is at three hour activation time with a water content value of 1.182%, ash content value of 7.095%, the volatile matter of 4,155%, the value of fixed carbon of 92,885% and iodine absorption of 825 mg/g. The results of the characteristics of actived charcoal made from goat bone waste as a whole fulfilled SNI on technical activated charcoal with No. 06-3730-1995.
