Pengaruh Penambahan Serat Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit Terhadap Kuat Tekan Dan Kuat Lentur Mortar

Abstract


This research aims to investigate the impact of adding oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fiber on the mechanical strength of mortar through compressive and flexural strength tests with varying percentages (0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%). Testing was conducted after 28 days, with a total of 12 specimens for each test variation. The results indicate varying effects of adding OPEFB fiber to the mechanical strength of mortar. Adding OPEFB fiber at percentages of 1%, 2%, and 3% resulted in a reduction in compressive strength from 17.75 MPa to 16.36 MPa, 12.01 MPa, and 8.64 MPa, respectively. However, percentages of 2% and 3% increased flexural strength from 0.721 MPa to 1.122 MPa and 0.755 MPa, while the 1% percentage decreased to 0.705 MPa. These findings suggest an optimal point in the addition of OPEFB fiber where mechanical strength can be enhanced without compromising overall mortar quality. This study is crucial for understanding the potential of OPEFB fiber as a reinforcement in mortar. Further steps need to explore variations in OPEFB fiber percentages to design an optimal mix without reducing mortar quality. Other aspects such as water-to-cement ratio, fiber size and shape, as well as production costs and the utilization of OPEFB fiber, need to be considered for broader construction applications.
