Dysmenorrhea is pain during menstruation caused by spasm of the uterine muscles. Dysmenorrhea usually has a crampy character and is located in the lower abdomen, which occurs within a few days just before and during menstruation. Primary dysmenorrhea is associated with various risk factors, one of which is an abnormal body mass index. In a person with a BMI less than normal (underweight) the body's resistance to pain will decrease so that dysmenorrhea can occur. Whereas in women with excess weight can trigger the onset of hormones that can disrupt the reproductive system, this is caused by excess fat in the body. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of body mass index on primary dysmenorrhea on high school female students in Banda Aceh City. The population in this study were all students of class X and XI in Banda Aceh Public High School 6, Al-Athiyah High School and Banda Aceh Methodist High School, with a total sample of 132 female students. The sampling technique in this study was purposive sampling. From the results of the statistical test obtained p = 0.230, it can be concluded that there is no significant effect between BMI and primary disminore.
