Pengaruh Penggunaan Serbuk Cangkang Telur Ayam Sebagai Bahan Pengganti Sebagian Semen Terhadap Kuat Tekan dan Kuat Lentur Mortar
Abstract
Chicken eggshells contain approximately 98.2% calcium carbonate, which is also the primary component in the production of Portland cement. Based on this information, the present study aims to evaluate the effect of incorporating eggshell powder on the mechanical strength of mortar and to explore the potential of utilizing eggshell waste as a partial substitute for cement in mortar mixtures. In this study, eggshell powder was added at varying proportions of 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% by weight of cement. Each variation consisted of three specimens, resulting in a total of 15 samples for both compressive and flexural strength testing. The tests were conducted after 28 days of curing, with compressive strength measured using specimens of 5 × 5 × 5 cm and flexural strength measured using specimens of 4 × 4 × 16 cm. The results indicated that the addition of 7.5% eggshell powder yielded the highest compressive strength of 17.36 MPa, representing a 25.45% increase compared to the control mortar. Meanwhile, the 10% eggshell powder variation achieved the highest flexural strength of 0.76 MPa, an improvement of 4.4% over the control. These findings suggest that eggshell powder has promising potential as a partial replacement for cement in mortar production.
