Analisis Kuat Tarik Serbuk Gergaji dengan Lem Epoxy Sebagai Bahan Perbaikan Kayu
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the mechanical properties of composite materials made from 0.5 mm sawdust and epoxy glue as an alternative wood repair material, particularly for traditional buildings that use red meranti wood. The main issue in using wood as a construction material is its vulnerability to damage from weather, pests, and aging. This research uses an experimental method by producing test specimens measuring 250 x 25 x 16 mm, following ASTM E8 standards. The variations in sawdust content used are 20%, 40%, and 50% of 10 grams of sawdust. Meanwhile, the epoxy variations are 80%, 60%, and 50% of 25 grams of epoxy glue. The mixed samples are left to cure at room temperature for 24 hours, then oven-heated at 60°C for 2 hours to ensure maximum curing, and subsequently tested using a tensile testing machine to obtain data on ultimate tensile strength, yield stress, and strain. The results show that sample A-03 performed the best, with the highest yield stress of 8.20 kg/mm², maximum strain of 16.70%, and the highest tensile strength of 12.55 kg/mm². This composition showed a significant improvement compared to pure wood (A-01). In contrast, A-02, which contained a higher proportion of epoxy, showed a decline in all mechanical parameters, while A-04 was in between. The highest tensile strength was achieved by A-03 at 12.55 kg/mm², which is a 20.95% increase compared to A-01 (10.38 kg/mm²). A-02 showed a sharp decrease to 8.61 kg/mm², while A-04 showed a decrease of 18.14%. In conclusion, the composition of 60% epoxy and 40% sawdust is the optimal ratio to produce a composite material that is strong, flexible, and suitable for structural wood repair applications. Moreover, the use of sawdust as a raw material supports the concept of wood waste utilization and the development of environmentally friendly materials.
