Abstract
The period of development and growth is a sensitive period or also called the critical period in children. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that Indonesia has the third highest prevalence of developmental and growth disorders in Southeast Asia at 28.7%. In Indonesia, the prevalence of speech delay in preschool children is between 5%-10%. Based on data at the Baiturrahman Health Centre Banda Aceh, verbal development in toddlers at the Baiturrahman Health Centre Banda Aceh City 3.45% still has a communication delay disorder in children aged 2-5 years. This study aims to determine the relationship between the environment and the role of health workers with the occurrence of speech delay in toddlers in the working area of Puskesmas Baiturrahman Banda Aceh. This type of research is analytic with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all mothers who had toddlers in the working area of the Baiturrahman Banda Aceh health centre, namely 1449 toddlers. The sampling technique using purposive sampling totalled 94 samples. Data were analysed univariately and bivariately and processed using the Chi-Square Test statistical test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the environment (p=value 0.001) and the role of health workers (p=value 0.026) with the occurrence of speech delay in toddlers in the Baiturrahman Health Centre Working Area Banda Aceh Year 2024. It is expected that health workers can improve services through education and stimulation of children's speech development to reduce the problem of speech delay.
