PREVALENSI PENDERITA KATARAK PADA DIABETES MELITUS TYPE 2 DI RS PERTAMEDIKA UMMI ROSNATI BANDA ACEH

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a disease that occurs due to decreased insulin production, decreased insulin action or both conditions that occur simultaneously. The characteristic of this disease is hyperglycemia which over time will become a serious problem for various organ systems, one of which is the eye (WHO, 2021). Cataract is one of the complications caused by type 2 diabetes mellitus. This cataract is a condition where the lens of the eye which is usually clear and clear becomes cloudy. This disorder is not a tumor or tissue growth under the eye, but is a condition where the lens is getting foggy. If this situation increases then over time it can end in blindness. The purpose of this study was to determine the demographic data of cataract patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Pertamedika Ummi Rosnati Hospital Banda Aceh. This research is a type of descriptive observational research with a cross sectional design, by means of an approach, observation or data collection at one time. The results showed that the incidence of cataracts with type 2 diabetes mellitus based on male gender was 3 people (25.3%) and female gender was 9 people (74.7%). In addition, in terms of age, the incidence of cataracts in type 2 diabetes mellitus obtained data on patients with cataracts mostly occurred in the age group 48-50 years as many as 5 people (41.5%), followed by in the age group 54-60 years as many as 5 people (41.5%), and in the age group 61-64 years as many as 2 people (17%). The conclusion of this study is that the female gender suffers more cataracts with diabetes mellitus.
