Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of addition of Aren fiber on noise absorption characteristics of rigid polyurethane foam. The weight percentages of Aren fiber used are 10%, 20%, and 30%. Impedance tube method was employed in the normal incidence acoustic absorption measurement. Parameters measured are Sound absorption coefficient ( and Noise reduction coefficient (NRC). The results showed that the addition of Aren fiber to the polyurethane foam composite has improved its sound absorption property, mainly, at high frequency ranges from 2000 Hz to 4000 Hz. In general, the sound absorption coefficients were significant increase with the increasing of Aren fibers percentages. The optimum sound absorption coefficient (α), 0,54, was remarkably demonstrated by the sample with 30% of Aren fiber content at frequency 2000 Hz. The highest NRC value of 0.29 was also exhibited by the sample with the 30% of fiber content. Consequently, it can be stated that the addition of Aren fiber in has certain implication on sound absorption characteristics of Polyurethane foam composite at high frequency.
