Abstract

This study wanted to find out the differences in mathematics learning outcomes and students 'motivation taught with discovery strategies compared to student learning outcomes in mathematics which were taught with conventional learning strategies in terms of students' thinking styles (divergent and convergent). This research is a quasi-experimental study with 2x2 factorial design. The population subjects were all students of SMP Negeri 1 Lhoong by taking a sample of two classes by purposive random sampling. Data collection uses two kinds of instruments, namely test and non-test. To see the differences in learning outcomes and learning motivation t-test is used at a significance level of 0.05 after the test prerequisites are met. From the data and results of statistical tests then analyzed with the help of SPSS. Based on the results of the study note that the mathematics learning outcomes of students who are taught with discovery strategies are better than students who are taught with conventional strategies and mathematics learning outcomes of students who have divergent thinking styles are better than students who have convergent thinking styles. Mathematical motivation to learn students who learn discovery learning strategies is better than students who learn by learning conventional learning strategies and students who have divergent thinking styles are better than students who have convergent thinking styles.
