EKSPLORASI ETNOMATEMATIKA TEKNIK PENGUKURAN TRADISIONAL KEARIFAN LOKAL AKTIVITAS “BERUME” MASYARAKAT GAYO UNTUK MENDUKUNG SWASEMBADA PANGAN

Abstract


The "Berume" activity, a Gayo farming activity, utilizes traditional measurements such as padang, kaleng/tem, kunce, mok, are, and kal, which have unique mathematical values relevant to local needs. The mathematical activities within this activity reflect traditional mathematical thinking in Acehnese agricultural practices. Within this culture, mathematics is better known as Ethnomathematics (cultural mathematics). However, with the demands of modernization, converting traditional measurements into standard units has become crucial to ensure uniformity and accuracy in data collection within the food self-sufficiency program, particularly in the process of accurately recording rice production using a universal measurement system. Achieving food self-sufficiency requires proper and correct program planning and implementation. The aim of this research is to examine the ethnomathematics aspects in the "berume" activities of the Gayo people, namely the mathematical concepts contained in the traditional measurement system. This research is based on the need to bridge traditional practices and modern demands in the agricultural data collection sector, so that innovative solutions can be found that combine cultural aspects and modern mathematical technology. The research method uses qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The main instrument is the researcher himself, data validity testing is carried out by triangulating sources. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman Model, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing (verification). The results of the study indicate that Gayo farmers have used ethnomathematics activities in rice farming activities. Fundamental mathematical activities used include counting, calculating, and measuring. In counting activities, many mathematical concepts emerge among farmers, such as subtraction, addition, multiplication, division, comparison of values, and comparison of inverse values. Thus, there are many ethnomathematics activities in farming activities carried out by the Gayo community. These concepts can be used as inspiration and reference material for contextual learning
